Choose the right electricity rate
Use the total price paid per kilowatt-hour from your utility bill when possible, not only the advertised energy charge. Time-of-use plans may have different off-peak and peak prices. Run both rates if your charging schedule changes.
Charging-cost formula
Annual electricity use = annual miles ÷ miles per kWh. Annual charging cost = electricity use × electricity rate. A simple full-charge estimate equals battery capacity × rate.
Allow for charging losses
Energy drawn from the wall can be higher than energy stored in the battery because of conversion, temperature control, and other losses. For conservative planning, increase the calculated electricity cost by roughly 10–15 percent or lower the efficiency input.
Home equipment is separate
This result does not include purchase and installation of a Level 2 charger, electrical-panel work, public fast-charging prices, parking fees, subscription fees, or demand charges.

Does this calculator include charging losses?
Not automatically. Wall-to-battery losses vary, so consider increasing the result by 10–15 percent as a conservative scenario.
Does a full charge always use the battery capacity shown?
No. Drivers rarely charge from exactly zero to 100 percent, and usable capacity may differ from the advertised gross battery size.
Are public fast-charging prices included?
No. Public networks may use different rates, session charges, subscriptions, or idle fees. Calculate those miles separately.
